Hats off to our International Service Committee and Evening Group for a successful collaboration with Medlife at Shepherd University Chapter spearheaded by Shepherdstown Rotarian Kirsten Martin and Shepherd Medlife President Lily Robbins! Our club was able to procure approximately $1,250 of donations split into three suitcases. The supplies are being used to support medical, oral health and toiletry items for the patients they will serve outside Lima, Peru this summer. In addition to the suitcases, our club is proud to financially offset the cost of their trips with funding from our annual golf tournament and Shepherdstown Beer & Food Fest funds.
Special thanks to Richard Anson, Carol and Irwin Asam, Annie Baronner, Teri Biebel, Maria Brown, John Loeffler, Tom and Michelle Maiden, Fritzie Martin, Kirsten Martin, Sean Murtagh, Brian Palank, Honor Thomas, Jen Wabnitz, Ashley Wertman, Kathy Wilson, Julie Wooton, Olivia Chung, and David Han for your contributions.
MEDLIFE is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that partners with low-income communities in Latin America and Africa to improve their access to healthcare, education, and safe housing. In order to achieve the ultimate goal of a world free from the constraints of poverty, we empower students and volunteers to become advocates for change through traveling on Service Learning Trips and participating in on-campus Chapters. The main objective of the Rotary- supported project is to enable the participation of several SU student members of the MLM Chapter at SU in an In-Service Learning Trip to Peru through contributing funds toward the cost of the student’s trip.
