Kiva Shepherdstown is a Rotary Club of Shepherdstown international project established in 2021. Our primary goal is to alleviate poverty worldwide by funding borrowers with micro-loans to improve financial stability.
There are over 1.4 billion unbanked people around the world. KIVA’s mission is to provide financial access to help communities thrive and they do this by crowdfunding loans and unlocking capital for the underserved. Over the past 18 years, 2.2 million KIVA lenders have facilitated over $2 billion in loans to over 5 million people. Through KIVA students can pay for tuition, women can start or expand their businesses, farmers can invest in equipment, families can access clean water and improve their homes, and communities can strengthen and grow networks to raise their quality of life.
As of April 2025, we have invested in 244 people and/or groups, funding over $15,335 in loans across 61 countries.
Kiva is a 501(c)3 U.S. nonprofit fueled by passionate people. Founded in 2005, and based in San Francisco, with offices in Bangkok, Nairobi, Portland and staff around the globe.
