The Rotary Club of Shepherdstown has inducted four new members, bringing its total membership to 100 for the first time in its 37-year history.

The new members include a husband and wife, David Han and Olivia Chung-Han; Shannon Thomas; and Jackie Piro. Their induction ceremony was held at the Club’s April 3 evening meeting at Shepherdstown’s Bavarian Inn.

Both the Hans moved to Jefferson County from Southern California about three years ago. David served 22 years in the Marines, the last 12 as a supply/logistics officer. After retiring from the Marines, he managed cybersecurity programs as a contractor for the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency and the FDA. Olivia was born in South Korea and immigrated when she was 13 years old to the West Los Angeles area. She studied at Santa Monica College and UCLA and worked in real estate and as a translator. In 2018, the Hans established their own government contracting business, which they co-own.

Thomas is a retired U.S. Air Force and Air National Guard officer with more than thirty years’ experience in program management, civic engagement, public relations, event planning and executive support. Her last military position was at the Pentagon as the public engagement officer to a member of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. She retired in 2017 to pursue a life-long dream of being an artist. In 2020, she and her husband, Adam, bought the historic Thomas Shepherd Grist Mill, where she established her studio space. She is a member of the board of the Contemporary American Theater Festival.

Piro spent 28 years as a teacher and school administrator, and at the same time has owned or helped operate several businesses. Currently, she operates her own short-term rental business and is a partner in a home organization and interior design business.

The Shepherdstown Rotary Club comprises two groups of members: an evening group that meets bi-weekly on Wednesdays and a morning group that meets weekly on Tuesdays. Both groups meet at Shepherdstown’s Bavarian Inn. All four of the new inductees have joined the evening group.
