Lt. Paul Capel and Capt. Vincent Edwards of the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Reserves attended Rotary’s evening meeting on Wednesday, February 18, where they were presented with a check by Dale Homan, president of the Rotary Club of Shepherdstown. They expressed their appreciation for Rotary’s generosity and support of the Reserves’ mission: assisting full-time deputies across Jefferson County.
Reserve deputies provide help with a wide range of calls, including traffic control at accident scenes, vehicle and home searches, serving court papers, processing detainees, fingerprinting, and transporting individuals to the Eastern Regional Jail. Of special importance to the Rotary Club, the Reserves provide safety patrols for our Adopt-a-Highway program twice a year on both Flowing Springs Road and Route 45. Their presence and patrol helps protect our workers from oncoming traffic.
The Sheriff’s Reserves also provide security for many community functions and events, including the Heritage Mountain Arts and Crafts Show (held in June and September), teen dances, school graduations, and other events as needed. In addition, the Reserves regularly assist other law enforcement agencies in Jefferson County and surrounding areas.
