Rotary Welcome Sign & Bridge Refresh

Tuesday, March 26 at 8:45 after our regular meeting

This is not a heavy lift and can be completed by a handful of eager Rotarians. Many hands…

The town will be providing the street sweeper and a dump truck.

Please bring gloves and your favorite implements.

If you think you can make it, please complete the sign up below.

Welcome Sign

(gardeners wanted)

  • Treat boxwoods for box tree moth
  • Remove dead vegetation
  • Plant flowers, see below
  • Mulch

Save the boxwoods from the box tree moth!

Our boxwoods are showing signs of the “box moth,” an invasive insect that attacks boxwoods. It has become a serious problem in Europe and is now spreading in parts of North America, including the eastern U.S.

Here’s the key thing: the moth itself isn’t the main problem — the caterpillars are. They can strip a boxwood bare very quickly.

Plants for Welcome Sign

  • Lantana camera (yellow flower) back row
  • Verbena hybrid (red) front row
  • plants and mulch provided

These will fill out rapidly. The Lantana will get to 18″ and the Verbana will be lower but spead. Yellow and red should be a good complement to the sign.

These plants should be very tolerant and require little maintenance and enjoy full sun.

Roadside

  • Clean up trash and debris from road edges and retaining wall

Bridge

  • Blow/sweep bridge sidewalks to street to remove winter gravel.
  • Work with street sweeper along curb and gutter
  • Remove grass and weeds from crevices

A few good brooms, square -point shovels, an blowers needed.
