The proceeds from this year’s event will help fund our support of the MEDLIFE chapter at Shepherd University and their service learning trip to Ecuador this summer.
This is the first year for the Rotary C&O Canal Ride. Start your bike ride at the Jefferson Security Bank Pavilion, adjacent to the Shepherd University’s Ram Stadium. You will cross the bridge over the Potomac River and then descend bike on a bike path to the C&O Canal Towpath. The canal path is flat with a packed stone dust surface in overall very good condition. The ideal bike for this ride would be a gravel bike with wider tires. The canal is very scenic with views of the Potomac throughout the ride. There are rest stops with snacks and drinks at Dargan’s Bend (mile marker 64.9). You will pass historic Harpers Ferry at the confluence of the Potomac and Shenandoah rivers at mile marker 60 . There is a rest stop at Brunswick (mile marker 55). At the Monocacy Aqueduct (mile marker 73.2) is the turn-around point. You will have completed 50 Km. Retrace your route to the Jefferson Security Bank Pavilion. You are welcome to end your ride at any point along the route.
End your ride at the Pavilion. The Rotary Club will provide a lunch and snacks.
Registration will open at 7:30 a.m. If you plan on biking the entire 100 km round trip to Monocacy Aqueduct, you should start no later than 8:00 a.m. Registration will close at 10:30 a.m.
This is a rain or shine event.
