Supporting Local Enterprise: Insights from the WV Small Business Development Center

At our November 19 evening meeting, Rotary members had the pleasure of hearing from Carol Goolsby, who delivered an insightful presentation about the West Virginia Small Business Development Center (WV SBDC) and its partnership with Shepherd University. She highlighted the vital role WV SBDC business coaches play in strengthening our local community—equipping entrepreneurs and small business owners with the guidance they need to launch, grow, and thrive.

The WV SBDC provides hands-on technical assistance at every stage of the business lifecycle. By helping clients clarify goals, build strong business skills, and secure the right resources, the organization supports the success of enterprises that keep our region vibrant and resilient.

Carol Goolsby holds both a Master of Business Administration (MBA) and a bachelor’s degree in Business Education. In addition to her work with WV SBDC, she currently serves as a professor at Shepherd University—furthering her commitment to building a strong foundation for the next generation of business leaders.
