Thanks for the Christmas Parade!

2024-shepherdstown-christmas-parade

Thanks from the Shepherdstown Rotary Club to everyone for another successful Shepherdstown Christmas parade! The weather was cold but the sun quickly warmed things up and everyone seemed to have a good time.

In all, the parade had 78 entries, with a good variety of organizations and individuals participating.

Thanks to everybody who turned out—those who participated in the parade and those who came to watch—and to the volunteers who helped put it together.

Among the parade participants, we were especially glad to have the New Market-Middletown Valley Hounds and the Sofa Kings of Frederick back with us again. Both groups are great favorites, and we appreciate them coming all the way to join us! We were also glad to have this year’s Miss West Virginia join us, since she had to come all the way from Charleston to do so.

The parade volunteers included Cheryl Groen, Julie Wootton, Susan Reichel, Teri Biebel, and Termia Jones, Holly Frye and Peter Smith, from the Shepherdstown Rotary Club; Jackson Heath, Paul Teter, Joanna Schoonover, L.J. Kesner, Tyler Furbee, from the Shepherd University Student Government Association Executive Board; Rachael Meads, from Shepherd University; and Rie Wilson, Joanie Moossy from the town.

Thanks, too, to our fine parade announcer, Steve Gainey, from Charles Town; to James Welsh, of Welsh Sound, who always provides a first-class sound system for these events; and to our police department—Chief Mike King and Sgt. John Jeffries—who always do a great job with traffic control and security.

And thanks to the town council, especially Mayor Gatz and council member Shannon Thomas, for their support for this event.

Next year’s parade will be a day earlier: Saturday, December 6. Mark your calendars, and we’ll see you then!
