SUMMARY:Sleep in Heavenly Peace
DESCRIPTION:A bed is a basic need for the proper physical\, emotional and mental support that a child needs and many children in our area do not have beds to sleep in.  Having a good bed helps children grow\, helps them sleep better\, helps them learn.  Come and hear about this innovative team\, building beds\, building partners. Sleep in Heavenly Peace is a national organization answering the call to a national problem and is where it is today because of the passionate volunteers who believe in the mission of getting kids off the floor and into beds. In just a few hours of your time\, you can make a direct\, permanent impact in the quality of life for dozens\, if not hundreds and maybe even thousands of kids in your community. \nBuilding Beds for Kids in Need\nParticipating in one of their Build Days is an exciting experience. There’s always something to do… from the moment you arrive\, sign in\, and get your safety gear until the last SHP logo is branded on the final headboard of the day. Volunteers – under the guidance of SHP Chapter team members – build bunks in an assembly line setup. There are stations for sawing\, sanding\, drilling\, assembling\, staining\, and branding the wood. What started as a pile of raw lumber from the hardware store becomes ready-to-deliver bunks for kids in need.

SUMMARY:Rotary Welcome Sign and Bridge Refresh
DESCRIPTION:We have arranged for the town street sweeper and dump truck! So after the meeting on May 26\, in the run-up to Shawn’s District Governor induction\, we would like to give Shepherdstown’s front porch a little Rotary shine. We’ll be tackling the winter leftovers on the bridge (goodbye\, gravel!)\, sprucing up the Bavarian Inn entrance\, freshening the town entry sign with plants and mulch\, and tidying the road edges so visitors get the welcome our town deserves. \nBring your gloves\, your wheelbarrow spirit\, and clothes you don’t mind getting a little dirty. Many hands make light work — and a prettier entrance to town! \nThanks to Woody Coe\, and the Corporation of Shepherdstown\, for their support! \nProject Details and Sign Up\n  \n

SUMMARY:Best Line Wins: A Play Inspired by the Improvised Lives of Elaine May & Mike Nichols
DESCRIPTION:Join us for an afternoon at the Contemporary American Theater Festival and “Best Line Wins.” \n“Modesty hasn’t done much for women\, historically speaking.”  \nNichols & May were one of the greatest comedy duos of all time\, but when they parted ways\, Mike Nichols soared while Elaine May struggled. The system wasn’t built for “difficult” women\, but it endlessly rewarded “charming” men. Decades later\, when Mike approaches Elaine with a new opportunity\, she must wrestle with what matters more: succeeding on her own\, or reuniting with the partner who knows her true worth. Set in the complex interaction of creativity\, competition\, and gender disparity\, this split-second-timed\, laugh-out-loud play by USA Today bestselling author and 2024-2025 Dramatists Guild Foundation National Fellow Beth Kander examines the power of lifelong friendship\, thorns and all. \nFollowing the play\, everyone is invited back to the home of Dick and Kathy Klein (65 Watercress Place) for a potluck dinner and discussion. \nCATF 2026

SUMMARY:A Place to Dream: Building Beds for Eastern Panhandle Children
DESCRIPTION:For the past year\, Carter Dubois has proudly represented the Eastern Panhandle Chapter of Sleep in Heavenly Peace\, helping provide beds and bedding to children in need throughout the community. \nThrough his service\, Carter has gained a deep appreciation for the difference a bed can make in a child’s life. A safe\, comfortable place to sleep supports a child’s physical\, emotional and mental well-being. It can lead to better sleep\, healthier development\, improved learning and greater confidence. Yet many children in our area still do not have beds of their own. \nOne of the most meaningful aspects of Carter’s involvement has been sharing the experience with his three children. By meeting local families and helping deliver beds\, they have learned valuable lessons about gratitude\, compassion\, perspective and community service. Carter believes these firsthand experiences have given his children a lasting understanding of the importance of recognizing the needs of others and giving back. \nSleep in Heavenly Peace is a national nonprofit powered by passionate volunteers who share a simple mission: “No Kid Sleeps on the Floor in Our Town!” Local chapters bring volunteers and community partners together to build and deliver beds to children who need them. \nThe organization’s Build Days offer community members an engaging\, hands-on way to help. Guided by chapter team members\, volunteers work in an assembly-line setting at stations dedicated to sawing\, sanding\, drilling\, assembling\, staining and branding the wood. In just a few hours\, a pile of raw lumber is transformed into finished beds ready for delivery to local children. \nThere is a role for everyone\, regardless of experience. By volunteering for a Build Day\, supporting the chapter or helping spread the word\, community members can make a direct and lasting difference in the lives of children and families across the Eastern Panhandle. \nSleep in Heavenly Peace is not only building beds—it is building partnerships\, strengthening communities and giving children a safer\, healthier place to dream.

DESCRIPTION:The Rotary Club of Shepherdstown is pleased to welcome District Governor Sean Murtagh as the featured speaker at our evening meeting. \nWhile District Governors traditionally visit every club during the Rotary year\, Sean’s visit is especially meaningful because Shepherdstown is his home club. Since joining Rotary\, Sean has served as club president\, inspired fellow members through his commitment to service\, and now represents more than 60 Rotary clubs and nearly 2\,000 Rotarians across Rotary District 7360. \nA retired U.S. Coast Guard Captain\, Sean devoted more than three decades to serving our nation before continuing his lifelong commitment to service as a financial advisor to military families\, nonprofit volunteer\, author\, and community leader. His journey reflects Rotary’s belief that leadership is rooted in service and that the greatest impact comes from helping others succeed. \nInstalled as District Governor in June\, Sean is leading the district under Rotary International’s 2026–27 theme\, “Create Lasting Change.” During his visit\, he will share his vision for the coming Rotary year\, highlight district initiatives\, and encourage Rotarians to continue building stronger clubs\, stronger communities\, and lasting friendships through Service Above Self. \nPlease join us in welcoming Governor Sean back to the club where his Rotary journey began.
