SUMMARY:Renewing Resting Places — Cemetery Clean Up Project
DESCRIPTION:The Community Service Team has volunteered to help Addison Reese with her valuable work\, cleaning up the abandoned cemeteries.  We will assist her with the Shepherdstown Rose Hill Cemetery.  She suggests parking at Shepherd and walking over.  There is limited parking and we’ll need room for trucks.  Please wear gloves.  Bring your tools\, rakes\, saws\, pruning tools.  Trucks to haul away debris would also be welcome.    Dates: Sept. 16

SUMMARY:Learn About the SCC Legendary Book Sale!
DESCRIPTION:Steve Wabnitz will be presenting about the upcoming SCC Legendary Book Sale\, which will take place from September 18 through September 27. All proceeds will go toward supporting the maintenance and preservation of the War Memorial Building and Morgan’s Grove Park. \nMr. Wabnitz graduated from the University of Maryland with a Bachelor of Science degree. He was also named a distinguished military graduate of the Army Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC) program at Howard University. \nSteve was commissioned in the U.S. Army as an Airborne Ranger infantry lieutenant before transferring to the Engineer Branch. As an engineer\, he served as commander of a combat-heavy construction company; Deputy Engineering and Housing Officer at Camp Humphreys\, Korea; Deputy Commander and Deputy Engineer for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Portland District; and Director of Engineering and Housing for the Heidelberg Military Community in Germany\, where he concluded his military career. \nFollowing retirement\, Mr. Wabnitz worked for 12 years as a real estate agent with Century 21. He earned numerous awards for customer service and production\, including the company’s highest honor\, the Centurion Award\, before returning to the National Capital Region. \nIn 2010\, Steve joined the Department of State as a facilities manager\, overseeing projects in Maryland\, Virginia\, and Washington\, D.C. He joined the Department of Homeland Security’s Science and Technology Directorate in 2016. He is currently responsible for real property\, personal property\, fleet management\, mail management\, and facilities. \nSteve brings many years of experience as a leader\, trainer\, and manager. He has written four books\, worked as a journalist\, and served as master of ceremonies for numerous events. He was also one of 50 officers selected to serve as a command speaker for the ROTC program in the northwestern United States. \nAs a public speaker\, Steve has represented organizations on highly complex issues before a wide range of audiences\, including televised town halls\, tribal councils\, universities\, and groups he has addressed through his various leadership positions. \nSteve is married to Jennifer Wabnitz and lives in Shepherdstown\, West Virginia. He has six children\, ranging in age from 22 to 38\, and five grandchildren.

SUMMARY:World Affairs Seminar: Taking the Vital Signs of the Planet’s Health
DESCRIPTION:Open to high school students from Jefferson\, Berkeley\, and Morgan Counties.\nOver the past 38 years\, the Rotary Clubs of Shepherdstown\, Martinsburg\, Charles Town\, and Berkeley Springs have organized an annual World Affairs Seminar that addresses relevant global and national issues\, with the participation of leaders from the local high schools in the Eastern Panhandle of West Virginia.  World Affairs Seminars address issues by providing participating students with a balanced understanding of the topic\, including the various issues and opportunities arising in the Eastern Panhandle. \nThe connection between planetary health and human health is complex and increasingly important as human fates become ever more intertwined with the future of wildlife and global resilience.
