DESCRIPTION:*DUE TO THE FORECASTED HEATWAVE\, THE PARADE HAS BEEN CANCELED\, BUT THE PICNIC IS STILL ON!* \nJoin us for Shepherdstown’s Annual 4th of July Picnic sponsored by the Rotary Club of Shepherdstown. \nWe’ll be celebrating our nations 250th birthday from 12:00 noon to 3:00 p.m. at the Morgan’s Grove Park. \nEveryone is welcome and admission is free! \nThis event has been organized annually by the Rotary Club of Shepherdstown since 2007\, and by now they have become an important\, Rotary-branded tradition that’s greatly appreciated by residents and elected officials alike. The goal is to provide a wholesome\, family-oriented Fourth of July celebration for the town. \nThe picnic will include a waterslide and other activities for children and two local bands will provide live music. The Rotary Club will be selling hamburgers\, hot dogs\, chips\, ice cream and non-alcoholic beverages. DESCRIPTION:Please bring: gloves\, clippers\, saws\, chainsaws\, etc. Addison is scheduling for there to be a dumpster to put the brush in. The main job is getting brush out. The cemetery is at the end of Granny Smith Lane. There isn’t a real address\, so you have to come via Stubbs Road. If people are coming from another direction and put in Granny Smith Lane\, it could take them through Rockwool‘s property. The property next to the cemetery is vacant so we are allowed to park there. DESCRIPTION:We are encouraging all club members to participate with the Shepherdstown Rotary marching contingent in this Saturday morning’s Shepherdstown Christmas Parade. Fellow Rotarians Kirt Martin and Laura Wolf go through great lengths to organize this annual Holiday spectacular\, and it is important that Rotary’s branding is sufficiently represented by our club membership. \nTowards that end\, I please ask that you come dressed in black slacks and red tops and meet at the corner of German Street and Church Street just before the 10:00am parade start (line-up at 09:45). We will be able to watch the parade from our vantage point and then bring up the rear while proudly displaying our Rotary Club of Shepherdstown banner.

SUMMARY:Stuff A Truck
DESCRIPTION:The Community Services Committee of our terrific club has organized a “Stuff A Truck” event on October 26th and 27th to support animal rescue organizations operating in Jefferson and Berkeley Counties. We will be collecting much-needed supplies for these 501c3 groups who protect the voiceless and vulnerable members of our community. \nEach of the rescues in our area has and continues to work through an unprecedented number of animal cruelty and hoarding cases this year. Their needs far outweigh their funding at this point. They are in need of everything they use to properly care for the animals until placement in permanent\, loving homes occurs. In addition to the needs locally\, these groups wish to send a portion of what we collect to our southern communities who have experienced catastrophic destruction due to Hurricane Helene. With another monster of a storm on the way\, Hurricane Milton\, they will need all the assistance they can get for a very long time. We commend our local rescue leaders for wanting to share their donations to support these communities. \nThe event plays out as follows: We park a 26-ft box truck each day at the location listed below. With permission we have obtained from store management\, our volunteers hand out pre-printed “Wish Lists” to shoppers as they enter the stores and we request they support our cause. This is a no-pressure process. We simply hand them the list\, explain our goal\, and request they add an item or more to their purchases to help fill the truck. If they refuse\, we wish them well and move on to the next customer. As shoppers bring their donations out\, volunteers collect and sort them in the truck. On Monday\, October 28th\, volunteers will use their pick-up trucks to disperse the donations to the rescues. These rescues have each provided lists of needed items and have been instructed to have a space ready for the items. SUMMARY:River Cleanup
DESCRIPTION:Founded several years ago by Daan Vreugdenhill\, this event needs at least 8-10 active participants to clean up the stretch of the Potomac River from the Steamboat Run meadow to the Shepherdstown Boat Ramp.  Start time is 9 am on August 31 at the Steamboat Run meadow and it usually takes about 3 hours to get to the boat ramp.  Pickups are needed to shuttle canoes and kayaks back and forth.  At least 4 kayaks/canoes are needed and more could be necessary depending on number of participants.  If there is interest\, a potluck dinner will be held afterwards\, 3 pm at the Vreugdenhills.  All Rotarians would be welcome regardless of your ability to participate that morning. \nVideo of Last Years Cleanup
