This morning's speaker is Mr. Monte Cater, head coach of the   Shepherd University Football Program. He'll speak to us about the past & future of the Shepherd University Football Program.  A native of Shelbyville, IL and a 1971 graduate of Millikin University, Decatur, IL, Mr. Cater is entering his 31st season as head coach of the Shepherd University football Rams. He was appointed the program's 12th head coach on February 9, 1987, and also served as Shepherd's Director of Athletics from 1993-2004.  Shepherd University's all-time winning-est football coach, Mr. Cater boasts a 235-92-1(0.718) record in 30 seasons as head coach of the Rams, and an overall record of 266-115-2(0.697) in 36 years as a head coach.  From 1981-1986, he was head football coach at Lakeland College, Sheboygan, WI.

Mr. Cater's 0.697 winning percentage and 266 victories rank among the top totals in the NCAAII coaching ranks among active coaches. He is ranked first among active NCAA coaches in victories, and is the all-time leader in WVIAC coaching victories.  He also holds the all-time mark for WVIAC coaching titles with 13.  His 235 wins at Shepherd are the most by any collegiate football coach at a college or a university in WV. He was named the Mickey Fufari Award winner as the state's college coach of the year in 2015-16 by the WV Sportswriter's Association.
